Karen Willfahrt received her nurse’s training at the Mayo Clinic and affiliated hospitals in Rochester, Minnesota, and graduated from the College of St. Teresa in Winona, Minnesota in 1977. She has been a nurse for over 40 years. In 1990-91, she was privileged to be part of hospital support services to our troops in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She worked in collaboration with staff from all over the world. She has been a staff nurse and Head Nurse in the field of Pediatrics for over 20 years and experienced in providing nursing care in the home to the most medically fragile children and adults, including infusion nursing.
Karen returned to school in 1996 and received her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona in 2000. She is qualified to practice in the areas of Western and Chinese botanical medicine and acupuncture, with a significant focus of her work in nutrition and lifestyle counseling. Her passion is working with individuals with disabilities. Especially, with the elderly and those diagnosed with autoimmune illnesses including MS, CIDP, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Crohn’s Disease, and Ulcerative Colitis, an effort for them to regain their full health potential through nutrition and lifestyle therapies. Karen serves as a board member for Vital Links for Humanity, a mission to Vietnam that provides education, water, and orphan care. She is married to her husband Dave and has four grown children, a dog, and two cats. She loves walks in the desert, gardening, and time spent with family and friends.
